Many players have the basic foundation of a world set up: a house to live in, a farm for food, a dungeon or two to explore. But as they advance, they’re looking for more challenges. Some may upgrade their living quarters to a mansion, others will mine deep into the Overworld and collect rare plants and flowers. And others will seek out new ways to test their combat skills and earn exciting rewards.
The trial update introduces a new way to achieve this: Trial Chambers. These structures — made of copper and chiseled tuff — contain multiple trial spawners, vaults, and a mix of enemies and traps. Activating one will spawn a limited number of mobs, and once they’re all defeated, the spawner will eject a reward. Activating multiple spawners at once can quickly become overwhelming, so it’s best to focus on one at a time.
Each Trial Chamber contains a different set of items and features, such as the Breeze, an elemental mob exclusive to the Trial Chambers. Its wind-based attacks make it difficult to predict its movement and add a dynamic layer to combat. Other features include a new melee weapon, the breeze rod, and Flow Armor Trim that enhances armor with unique abilities.
This update also debuts a new article type, Clinical Trial Update, to facilitate the timely dissemination of updated results from completed trials. This new format focuses on the new data, and it does not suggest that previously reported data are less important or that JCO peer review will be less rigorous.
